Audio Cassette Player
Allows playback and recording of audio content on an analog magnetic tape which is wound between two spools within the cassette. This format has generally been superseded by newer digital recording formats.

 
Tuner
Allows reception of AM and FM radio broadcasts. For convenience and economy the tuner is often built into modern amplifiers which are known as receivers.

The first widely available digital consumer item the CD player allows playback of audio content on optical Compact Disc or CD

 
VHS Recorder
Allows recording and playback or audio and audio-visual content on an an analog magnetic tape which is wound between two spools within the VHS cassette

 
Mini Disc Player
This digital device allows recording and playback of audio content on an Optical Mini Disc.
Although usually intended as a portable walkman like device it nonetheless can form a useful addition to the home theatre
 

 
Laser Disc Player
Allows playback of audio/visual content from commercially produced Optical laser Disc. This format never achieved widespread popularity and has generally been superseded by DVD
 

 
DVD player
Allows playback of audio/visual content from commercially produced Optical Digital Versatile Disc.

Allows creation, recording, editing and playback of a wide range of audio visual content.
